Moomin Madness comes to Berwick
Despite the official Opening Gala not being until 7pm on Friday 23rd September, the Festival actually opens with a private screening of a new Moomins film, for primary schools in the Berwick-upon-Tweed area!
The event, Moominworld, offers a regional premiere of Moomins and the Midsummer Madness, a new animated adventure from the Finnish fuzzy felt family, as well as storytelling from the original Tova Jansson books, from Seven Stories, the Children’s Books specialists in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The Festival has teamed up with Seven Stories, the Finnish Film Foundation, and supported by General Mills, to bring Moominworld to Berwick upon Tweed.
A number of primary schools in the Berwick area have signed up already, and it’s shaping up to be a fun-filled Friday afternoon!
The same film will then screen for the public on Saturday at midday at the Maltings Theatre & Cinema, suitable for children and big kids alike, and will be followed by a day-long workshop offering families the chance to get creative themselves; drawing, painting and scratching directly into 16mm film cells. The workshop, Unravel: The Longest Hand-painted Film in Britain, starts at 1pm in the Maltings Stage Door Bar, and the fun continues all day, with people being able to drop in and out, free of charge.
