Tina Gharavi nominated for BAFTA

I Am Nasrine, which received its world premiere in Berwick-upon-Tweed in 2011, has gone on to be nominated for the 2013 British Academy Film Awards.

The film was first seen by audiences at the Opening Gala of the 7th Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival before screening at the Houses of Parliament in London, and at film festivals worldwide over the past sixteen months. The film also won the Best Screenplay Award at Brooklyn Film Festival.

Today, writer / director Tina Gharavi, based in South Shields, has been nominated for outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer for I Am Nasrine - and we couldn't be more pleased for her!

The film is an intimate coming-of-age story following Nasrine and her brother Ali, as they flee their home in Tehran and set out to make another in the North East of England. Tina has described I Am Nasrine, as a “love song to the North East.”

Tina, together with her producers, cast and crew (pictured) came to the World Premiere at the Festival, where it was presented to a full house at The Maltings Theatre & Cinema.

The news comes only three days after one of the Festival’s commissions from last year’s event, A Live Road Movie in Super8 and Sound, toured to the prestigious London Short Film Festival for a sell-out performance.

The 66th British Academy Film Awards will take place at the Royal Opera House in London on 10 February 2013. For the full list of nominations, click here.
