Cecilia Stenbom to be Berwick's artist in residence
Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival is delighted to be a partner on Berwick Visual Arts’ residency programme, who yesterday announced Cecilia Stenbom as its first artist in residence.
The residency provides the opportunity for an artist working with the moving image to respond to Berwick-upon-Tweed and produce new work to be premiered at our 9th annual celebration, in September 2013.
Cecilia is originally from Sweden and has been based in Iceland, Finland and Scotland before moving to England in 2005. She works across a variety of media including video and film, installation, drawing and painting, is a member of AV-Arkki, Finland, and is represented by Workplace Gallery, Gateshead. Her proposal was selected from one of 70 submitted to Berwick Visual Arts, and shortlisted in partnership with the Festival and with Arts Council England.
On her appointment Cecilia said, “I am really pleased to be selected and I am looking forward to making new work in an exciting location. Berwick is a rich environment to draw from that engages from both a political and physical landscape”.
Cecilia will take up her post at the start of January 2013 and there will be opportunities to meet with her and learn more about the work she plans to develop whilst resident in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
