Chris Anderson Award for Best Young Filmmaker Nominees Announced
We are pleased to announce the nominees for the Chris Anderson Award for Best Young Filmmaker. With more entries than ever before the shortlisting for the final competition was a difficult one. The youth team at the Berwick Youth Project as part of the festival's 'Film Nights' helped to shortlist the final nominees.
The selected films show the talent of young filmmakers across the region is growing year on year and the proffessional jury are going to have a hard time choosing the overall winner.
The Jury for the award are:
Laura Degnan, Writer's Block North East. Laura has worked in drama development and script editing roles at Kudos Film and TV, RS Productions and for the BBC in-house drama department.
Merrick Thomson, Berwick Youth Project. Project Manager of the Bee Hive, home of Film Nights and base for the Berwick Film Academy. Merrick has worked on short films made by young people such as 'Screwed', 'An American Zombie in Berwick' and 'Hide'.
Samm Haillay, Producer. Founder of independent production company 'Third' with Duane Hopkins. He produced Hopkins’ multi-award winning short films and his feature debut 'Better Things', which premiered to critical acclaim at International Critics Week, Cannes in 2008. Samm is also a Board Member of Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival.
Hollywood Director Paul WS Anderson once again has shown his support through a recorded introdcution at the UK Premiere of his new film Resident Evil:Retribution promoting the award.
The Young Filmmakers Showcase has also grown by securing Berwick Holiday Park as a Sponsor for the day.
