Announcing a new Programme Strand

Brand new for the 2015 Festival is Berwick New Cinema – a Festival strand presenting innovative and internationally acclaimed films that push their genre to the very limits. The strand creates an important new forum for debate around the art of cinema. Many of the films are UK premieres.

Berwick New Cinema will run over the course of the Festival weekend. It will include a series of short films and talks, one building upon another to create a weekend full of intense artistic exploration.

The Berwick New Cinema Seminar, led by academic Ed Webb-Ingall and some of our filmmaker guests, will explore the Festival theme and contextualise some of the works shown, creating possibilities for close-up critical response and debate. The seminars will provide space for discussion, reflection and contextualisation of the films, encouraging participants to challenge traditional understandings of the film and moving image industry.

In association with Berwick Visual Arts, BFMAF will offer a limited number of artist one-on-one sessions with Paul Rooney, our artist in residence whose commissioned work will premiere at the Festival. Other artist one-on-one sessions will be released with the full programme.

Both the seminar and one-on-one sessions will be available to all Full Festival Pass holders. Contact
