From Berwick to Blyth: Northern Flame film project captures the Olympic Torch Relay

Tomorrow sees the Olympic Torch Relay pass into Northumberland through Berwick before it makes its way through the County to Blyth and into Tyne and Wear between 14 – 16 June and we’re proud as punch to be able to support a London2012 Inspire Mark project which will film the torch along its route.

In partnership with Northern Film & Media, Northumberland College and ourselves, Northumberland County Council have commissioned production company Magic If to create a film about the Olympic Torch Relay through Northumberland.

Filmmakers Bev Fox and Ian McLaughlin will document the torch as it travels through Northumberland, engaging with community groups such as Berwick Youth Project and many others to produce a film, which those involved have called “Northern Flame.” Footage for the film will be shot by members of the community who will capture the torch on film as it passes from Berwick to, Bamburgh, Alnwick, Hipsburn, Warkworth, Amble, Ashington, Newbiggin By the Sea, Choppington, Morpeth, Hartford and Bedlington before it finally reaches Blyth on 15 June.

The film will be premiered as part of a free event here at Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, which returns for its eighth celebration of the art of film; Wednesday 19th – Sunday 23rd September.
