Berwickshire Film Fest

28/05/2010

Visiting a town near you … The Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival is aiming to bring surround sound and cinema experience on ’wheels’ to the Borders. The Festival will tour the Screen Machine, an 80-seat mobile cinema.

The event is being supported by Scottish Borders Council and Regional Screen Scotland. Duns, Eyemouth and Coldstream will play host to Scotland’s only Screen Machine. Normally located in the Highlands and Islands, this will be one of the first times the Screen Machine has ventured south. Boasting a state of the art 3D digital projection screen and Dolby surround sound speakers. This articulated lorry will roll into the Borders Friday 9th to Sunday 11th July 2010.

Vicky Davidson, Executive Member for Economic Development, Scottish Borders Council, said “to have the Screen Machine visit the Scottish Borders is a great opportunity, Regional Screen Scotland's aim to increase and improve access to the cinema experience across Scotland will benefit the Borders area. Many people have to travel quite a distance to the cinema, with this project we are taking the cinema to the people.”

This mini-fest precursors the 6th Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, which runs Wednesday the 15th September to Sunday 19th September 2010.

The screen machine will host a diverse range of contemporary and retrospective films. The main feature will be preceded by a short film, some of which will have been made by budding young directors from the Scottish Borders and Northumberland. The programme will be themed around ‘performance’, with a strong emphasis being placed on films for all the family. Each town will enjoy three screenings, before the mobile cinema moves onto its next location.

The screen machine will be on location on the following dates:
Friday 9th July - Coldstream
Saturday 10th July - Duns
Sunday 11th July – Eyemouth
