Get involved with your local film festival!

20/07/2011

Last year over 40 volunteers of all ages helped to create the most successful Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival to date, showcasing the best in contemporary film and visual arts in unique historical locations around the town.
Volunteers are crucial to the success of the Festival - informing the public about events, stewarding, helping set up the equipment, promoting activities and creating a fun and enjoyable atmosphere in Berwick-upon-Tweed!
The Festival team are keen to ensure that everyone gets the most out of their experience of volunteering with the festival, with opportunities to gain skills, knowledge and experience to help with work, study or interests.
In return for their time and commitment, volunteers will receive a free Festival pass, access to a special preview screening, get to see the films and exhibitions for free when volunteering, learn new skills and get a free Festival t-shirt!

Recruitment for volunteers for the 2011 Festival will begin on 29th July 2011. For details, and for the guidelines and application form, go to www.berwickfilm-artsfest/volunteer-with-us or contact Volunteers Coordinator Adam Graham on 01289 303355 or email adam@berwickfilm-artsfest.com

For those interested in a two-week placement from mid-September as Production Assistant, the Festival will be recruiting from mid-August where details will be available at www.berwickfilm-artsfest.com/vacancies
One volunteer last year said “It was great meeting people and being part of the festival, I will definitely be back next year”
Another said “It was really fun and interesting and it helped me gain more confidence”

The Festival’s Volunteers Coordinator Adam Graham said today “Anyone can be a volunteer, no experience necessary and it is such great opportunity to meet people, try something new and be part of a established festival”

Festival Director Melanie Iredale added “We’re incredibly thankful to The Sage Foundation and to the Community Foundation for supporting us to develop the Volunteers & Internship Project further this year, enabling us to offer even more opportunities for those who can give their time to the Festival”

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival is a spectacular celebration of the art of the moving image, set in the historic border town of Berwick upon Tweed. It is unique in its uniting of cinema with media art, and most distinctive in its setting; the far North of England.

The Festival has a six-year history of producing alternating biennales and ‘mini-fests,’ screening over 350 individual works from 35 countries, including 40 UK or European premieres. Each event has attracted up to 10,000 audiences from across the UK to engage with screenings, events and installations in up to 20 different locations across Berwick-upon-Tweed, capturing the imagination of the whole town.

Last year’s edition was the most successful to date, with 50 individual screenings and events, and 6 new commissions including a new video from Walker & Bromwich (Berwick), a live performance from People Like Us & Ergo Phizmiz (London), and a new score from sound artist BJNilsen (Berlin). The works came from 18 different countries and were projected in and onto 14 locations across Berwick, including the Town Hall and various sites along the Town Walls.

The next festival is set to take place Friday 23 – Sunday 25 September 2011.
