Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival have just announced some great opportunities they now have available for young people in our local community.
Says Festival Director Melanie Iredale:
“These are really exciting opportunities for any young person who is interested in finding out more about watching and making films. The chance to work in this creative industry and gain more skills, knowledge and experience in arts and media as well as being part of the community’s most exciting festival!.”
Berwick Film Club will for the first time offer young people the chance to be part of the Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival Team. Get to have your say in the film programming for young people and help produce world premiere film events. You will also receive a VIP Access All Areas pass to the festival as a member of staff. Those who join the Film Club Team can discover amongst other things;
• How to be a film critic and get paid to watch films
• Get to see films from around the world before everyone else
• Get an insight into the film industry and how films are made
• What makes a blockbuster film a blockbuster
• Music and sound effects
• Skills to produce premiere film events
• Design, marketing and promotional experience
• Gain real Work Experience

The Chris Anderson Award Calling all young filmmakers from North East England and Scottish Borders aged 14 years and under. Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival is now seeking submissions of short films made by young people under 14 to compete for the Chris Anderson Award of £200. The winning film will also be screened at the Leeds Young People's Film Festival – one of the biggest film festivals in the UK for young people. This competition commemorates the life of Chris Anderson who was an active supporter of both the Festival and young filmmaking.
Selected films for the competition will be screened at The Maltings Theatre on Sunday 19th September at 2pm.
A young programming committee from the Festival Film Club at Berwick Youth Project will select the programme of films that make up the final competition programme.
Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival are working with Changemakers to deliver
their Future Cultural Leaders Project by recruiting a Young Advocate.
They are looking for a young filmmaker aged 16 - 25 to devise and deliver a
project documenting the festival and ensuring that young people are at the
heart of their plans for the future. Working for 10 days in a paid position
you will work with the Youth Projects Producer to document the festival
involving and including young people.
Internship: Guest Services & Hospitality Coordinator
An internship opportunity has arisen to join the team as Guest Services & Hospitality Coordinator. The position is to manage the guest service and coordinate hospitality for the Berwick Film & media Arts Festival 15-19th September 2010. The role includes booking travel and accommodation, itineraries, event and delegate hospitality. This is a crucial role within the festival team demanding excellent communication and organisational skills with great opportunities to meet international artists and filmmakers and networking possibilities.
