Following huge success on the international film festival circuit, which saw it screen as a Tiger Nominee at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and pick up a nomination for the Michael Powell Award, ‘Dummy Jim’ returns home to Scotland with its director Matt Hulse in tow.
Narrowly avoiding collision with the oncoming Tour de France, ‘Dummy Jim: A Wee Tour’ launches at the Glasgow Film Theatre on Sunday 6th July with Matt Hulse and lead actor Samuel Dore in attendance, plus a live performance by score composers The Twelve Hour Foundation.
Described as “a totally unique mixture of documentary, fiction and playful visual poetry”, ‘Dummy Jim’ charts the journey of a profoundly deaf Scotman, James Duthie, who cycled over 3,000 miles from Cairnbulg in Scotland to the Arctic Circle (and back) in 1951 and was tragically killed in a road accident in 1965.
Matt Hulse’s adaptation of this extraordinary story will now tour throughout a variety of venues in Scotland, taking in Aberdeenshire to Wick, via Inverness and will culminate in Edinburgh Film House on Thursday 17th July.
“I’m thrilled to be taking ‘Dummy Jim’ on tour,” comments Hulse, “after spending twelve years developing the film, the past year since release has been a whirlwind and I’m looking forward to bringing Dummy Jim home and introducing him to communities across Scotland!”
‘Dummy Jim: A Wee Tour’ is being kindly supported by Film Hub Scotland, part of the British Film Institute’s Film Audience Network for Scotland, and The Saltire Society, in partnership with Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival.
Sambrooke Scott, Manager of Film Hub Scotland said, “We’re delighted to be able to support Matt’s unique and charming film. Film Hub Scotland enables exhibitors to show more films, to more people, in more places and we are proud to help give ‘Dummy Jim’ a wee push to reach audiences across Scotland.”
Following the tour, ‘Dummy Jim’ will be available on DVD and to download from Jukebox Kino, a new subscription distribution initiative from Radio Film - the producers of Hulse’s next film ‘The Hippies’.
