Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival is thrilled to have received the award for Best Event Northumberland at the Journal Culture Awards last night.
Organised by NCJ Media - the shortlist for the awards is drawn up from nominations by the public and then narrowed down by an industry panel. The Journal Culture Awards annually recognise, reward and celebrate the cream of the North East’s cultural talent with a sparkling award ceremony.
Festival Director Melanie Iredale and Marketing & Development Manager Laura McBeth attended the ceremony at the Sage Gateshead yesterday evening where they were presented with the award for Best Event Northumberland by TV Presenter Fern Britton in recognition of the Festival’s outstanding achievements last year.
The Journal Culture Awards bestowed not just one, but two honours on Berwick, as the winner of Best Visual Artist went to the Swedish-born, North East-based Cecilia Stenbom in recognition of her work last year, which included a six-month residency with Berwick Visual Arts, in partnership with the Festival.
Festival Director Melanie Iredale said: “Being awarded a Journal Culture Award is such a fantastic tribute to the hard work of so many people who make the Festival what it is, and to the support of our audiences, we’re absolutely thrilled. It’s also such a huge encouragement as we prepare for what will be the Festival’s tenth anniversary edition this September, which is set to be even more ambitious than ever!”
On receiving Visual Artist of the Year Cecilia Stenbom said “I’m absolutely delighted to receive a Journal Culture Award for my work last year, and producing The Case was a huge part of that. I was proud to premiere it at Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival and to see it tour to the likes of Rotterdam Film Festival.”
Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival returns to once again transform Berwick-upon-Tweed in to one big screen 17th – 21st September 2014, celebrating what will be its tenth anniversary edition.
