A short film made in Berwick-upon-Tweed by North East-based artist Cecilia Stenbom toured from Berwick to London in the New Year and will soon travel to Glasgow and to Rotterdam in the Netherlands in the coming weeks.
“The Case” – a short film set in Berwick and inspired by the Nordic Noir genre - was produced as part of a 6-month residency with Berwick Visual Arts and premiered in front of a full house at Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival in September. The artists’ video went on to be presented at a sell-out screening at London Short Film Festival just last week, and will be screened as part of the AV-Arkki showcase at the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam later this month, before being exhibited as part of the international competition at Glasgow Short Film Festival in February.
Originally from Sweden, Cecilia Stenbom’s works have been shown all over the world. Now based in Gateshead, her work is represented by Workplace Gallery in the UK and AV-Arkki in Finland.
Today she said “The residency in Berwick resulted in a short film I’m really very happy with, so I’m delighted to see it travel across the UK and internationally to Rotterdam to reach a wider audience.”
The details of the screenings are as follows:
• Saturday 25th January – AV-arkki & DINAMO (Distribution Network of Artists’ Moving image Organizations) Press & Industry screening, as part of International Film Festival Rotterdam
• Thursday 13th & Saturday 15th February – International Competition at Glasgow Film Theatre, as part of Glasgow Short Film Festival
“The Case” will be represented at both screenings by artist Cecilia Stenbom and co-commissioner Melanie Iredale from Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival.
