Opportunities to get involved!

09/07/2013

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival – the annual international celebration of the art of film – returns Wednesday 25th to Sunday 29th September 2013, and is now offering opportunities for individuals and for businesses to help create the biggest and most successful edition to date.

The Festival is pleased to announce its annual call fro volunteers, and to introduce the latest member of the team – Gerry Maguire, who joins us as Volunteers and Production Coordinator. Gerry has a background in film production, with credits including BAFTA-nominated I Am Nasrine, which premiered in Berwick in 2011.

Gerry says, "Being a part of the Berwick Film & Arts Fest team is a really exciting opportunity. Having been to the Festival in the past, I’ve seen how it’s gone from strength to strength and this year looks to be better than ever. I'm looking forward to working with a team of volunteers that are just as excited as I am about this years festival."

The Festival couldn’t happen without the support of support of more than 50 volunteers every year from Berwick, and across the North East and Scottish Borders, who together help transform the entire town into one big screen for 5 days each September.

Volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and cover activities in all areas of the event organisation and delivery, offering a chance for everyone to take part, and in return are offered unrivalled access to the festival.

The Festival provides each volunteer with a unique experience, tailored to suit their skills, interests and passions, as well as the chance to develop skills and gain experience within a managed event environment. An inclusive, intergenerational approach is taken to volunteering at Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, with applications sought from anyone over 16 years of age, and with no maximum age limit.

Notes to editors:

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival
Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival is an international celebration of the art of the moving image, set in the historic border town of Berwick upon Tweed and looking out onto the North Sea. The inaugural Festival took place in September 2005, with a vision to transform Berwick into one big moving image installation – a visual and cultural spectacle – and the celebration has taken place every year since.

With eight editions under its belt, the Festival has established a reputation for being imaginatively and ambitiously curated - producing a screening programme, a promenade of installation works, a number of new commissions, and a lively selection of special events, artist talks and hands-on workshops across a number of venues.

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival 2013: North by Northeast
Set in the far North of England, and straddling the border with Scotland, this year’s programme will explore our region’s historical, industrial, travel and trade links with Northern Europe, uniting filmmakers, artists and audiences from around the North Sea rim.

The 9th edition will take place Wednesday 25th – Sunday 29th September 2013, and the Programme will launch mid-August. For more info on the Festival, please go to www.berwickfilm-artsfest.com

With last year’s Festival resulting in Berwick’s B&B’s “selling out,” Festival organisers recommend visitors book early. Please go to http://berwickfilm-artsfest.com/staying-in-berwick for information on local accommodation, or call Berwick Tourist Information Centre on +44 (0)1289 301 780.
