Moomins and the Comet Chase

Saturday 28th September / 11AM @ The Maltings Theatre & Cinema

Join us in Moomin Valley for the latest adventure of cult Finnish classic – Moomins and the Comet Chase. With the help of his father, Moominpappa, Moomintroll and his worried friends embark on a challenging journey to the observatory to find out why everything in their valley is covered in thick grey dust and the sky continues to get redder by the day. They discover a comet is heading straight for them, but can they make it back to Moominhouse to get everyone to safety in time?

Moomins and the Comet Chase sees the world’s favourite family of white trolls return for another adventure set in the fascinating and curious world of Moomin Valley. Based on the original stop-motion TV series, Comet in Moominland of the 1970s and 80s, the gang must work together and overcome potential dangers and peculiar creatures as they journey via boat and foot through Moomin Valley to beat the comet home and save everyone from disaster. Four days, four hours, four minutes, 44 seconds and counting – will they make it?

Moomins and the Comet Chase enjoyed its international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and features the familiar voices of many well known Swedish actors such as Stellan Skarsgård (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Good Will Hunting), Alexander Skarsgård (Melancholia, True Blood), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist, Minority Report) and Peter Stormare (Fargo, The Big Lebowski). With The Comet Song written and performed by Björk – one of the Moomin’s biggest fans!

The Moomins were created by Finnish writer and artist Tove Jansson in the 1950s. The original books have been translated into 44 languages that have gone on to inspire television series and animated films. The Moomins are often regarded as one of Finland’s biggest exports.

“Their world is full of exciting journeys and mysterious people met on the way. And the subtle wisdom that never tips into moralising is maybe unique to Jansson or the Nordic culture.”
