Chris Anderson Award
This prestigious award has grown year on year, showcasing the best shorts from filmmakers under 19 in North-East England, southern Scotland and here on the border.
The late Chris Anderson was an avid supporter of the Festival and one of the original founder-members in 2005. Prize Money has been donated by his family in his honour, and will be presented to the winning film. This year the event will be introduced by Chris Anderson’s son, Resident Evil director Paul W.S. Anderson, and actress Milla Jovovich, with a specially recorded video message.
During the summer, Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival teamed up with Berwick Youth Project to continue our weekly Film Night sessions for teenagers. Film Night members became part of the selection committee for the Award. A full selection of the short films by young people can be found here
Berwick Film Academy Premiere
A mystery-thriller set in Berwick-upon-Tweed as an unknown man tries to uncover events that led to a body washed up on the beach.
Back for a third time, Berwick Film Academy trained young people in all aspects of filmmaking, to produce a 3 minute film and to organise the premiere screening to launch it as part of the 8th Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival.
As part of the weekly Film Night sessions that take place at Berwick Youth Project’s Beehive, workshops were led by professional filmmakers James Harris & Laura Degnan from Writers Block North East preparing them for an intensive 3-day film shot on location in Berwick-upon-Tweed and edited in time for the World Premiere!
This project was funded by the lottery, through the BFI’s First Light initiative, with the support of CSL Young People’s Fund and the Cooperative Community Membership Fund.
